March 2020: Faculty Onboarding and Policies

Please join me in congratulating Yanni Gacopoulos on his promotion to Assistant Director of Faculty Affairs! In his new role, he will report directly to Cailyn McCarthy, Associate Director of Faculty Affairs, and will manage the Onboarding and Support team, oversee all payroll and appointment-related paperwork, compile data for complex reports, and serve as a key member of the Faculty Database Implementation team. Yanni will also lead training workshops for program administrators across all of our degree and non-degree programs and will be working closely with ADs to help improve the onboarding experience for all faculty across the board. Prior to his promotion, Yanni served as a Faculty Affairs Specialist, where he was charged with supporting the hiring and onboarding of faculty and non-faculty academic appointments for Masters and non-degree programs. Yanni is also an Associate in “Managing Human Behavior in the Organization” & “Developing and Implementing New Ideas” offered by the SPS Business Certificate program. He received his MA in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Fairfield University in 2017, and will pursue an MA in “Social/Organizational Psychology at Teachers College starting Fall 2020. Congratulations, Yanni! – Melinda

I’d also like to take this opportunity to introduce you to a few other new teammembers that joined the Faculty Affairs team in recent months. Please welcome Annie Kennedy, who joined SPS in November 2019 as a Faculty Affairs Representative. In her role, she supports programs and faculty with their hiring, on-boarding and payroll needs. She was drawn to work with SPS because of the unique and specialized programs offered to students. She holds a BA in Finance from The University of Maine, where she was also a pitcher on the softball team. Annie’s favorite time of the year is Winter because she was born on Christmas!

Please also welcome Nyesha Hightower, who recently joined the team as a Faculty Affairs Representative after spending over 8 years working for Sanctuary for Families helping families experiencing gender violence gain stability, security, and independence. Her experiences gave her a desire to help improve the essential qualities in the lives of others through education. She is always positive and seeking to find the beauty in everything around her. Since she was a child, she has been passionate about helping others and looking for ways to become a better person. Some of her hobbies include learning, reading, yoga, music, binging RuPaul’s Drag Race, traveling, and cooking. Nyesha is always determined to keep a smile on her face and help others in any way she can.

Born and raised in the Bronx, Neville Maloney is a native New Yorker at heart, and a die hard Knicks fan. Neville recently joined the Faculty Affairs team as a Faculty Affairs Representative. With a background in customer service, he takes pride in providing quality service to all. A critical thinker by nature, he received a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Boston College. Outside of work, Neville likes to spend his free time flipping through a good book, playing basketball at a local park or recreation center, and engaging in passionate conversations on hip-hop culture. His favorite foods include jerk chicken, tortas, and beef patties.

And a big thank you to the rest of our Faculty Onboarding team, including John Kerwin, Faculty Affairs Specialist, Meg Michel, Faculty Affairs Representative, and Kimberly Browne, for their excellent work! Thank you!
